We discovered many things this evening.
Not only did we learn about psychosomatic syndrome and archaeological finds in Ludlow, but also not to store your wine in the attic, to wear suitable body armour when careering downhill on a mountain bike, and a novel way of mowing the lawn at 100mph. This last trio won Kenny best speaker for his icebreaker.
Helen led the warm-up encouraging us to describe something we would like to achieve this year. Declarations of learning Greek, undertaking a PhD, improving photography and achieving Distinguished Toastmaster were among the responses.
As if that wasn’t enough, the video producer (Sam) set up the lights and cameras while the director (Jenny) invited us all to take to the floor to say why we joined Toastmasters. This was very revealing as everyone had different reasons and it was fascinating to hear their stories. We plan to use the videos for promotion – after all, we are a speaking club. Great performances by all.
